Aug 28 2026 5:44PM
Shares of Ola Electric Mobility gained more than 3 percent on August 28 after the electric two-wheeler maker launched its new S1Z scooter range, bringing its indigenously developed Bharat Cell LFP battery technology to its most accessible models.

Ola Electric shares closed at Rs 38.83 on NSE, up 3.19 percent for the day. The stock has gained around 3.5 percent so far in 2026, compared with a 7.5 percent decline in the Nifty 50 over the same period. The company has a market capitalisation of less than Rs 18,000 crore.

The new S1Z is available in 3.1 kWh and 5.1 kWh variants, priced at an introductory Rs 79,999 and Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. The two variants offer claimed IDC ranges of up to 179 km and 301 km. The 3.1 kWh version is scheduled to begin deliveries in December 2026, while deliveries of the 5.1 kWh variant are slated to start in March 2027.

A key feature of the launch is Ola Electric's 46-series LFP Bharat Cell platform, developed at its Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at the company's Gigafactory. The S1Z marks the first time Ola is bringing the technology to its mass-market scooter range.

The company said developing and manufacturing the battery technology in-house has helped lower battery costs, which constitute the single largest cost component of an electric vehicle. Ola is betting that greater vertical integration will allow it to offer newer battery technology at more accessible price points.

The S1Z forms part of Ola Electric's broader push to develop critical EV components internally. Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal said the company has built the cell, motor, vehicle, software and other key components in-house.

The 301-km claimed range on the higher-capacity S1Z also represents a significant increase over the 146-km range offered by the earlier S1 Z dual-battery setup. However, the new range starts at Rs 79,999, compared with a starting price of Rs 64,999 for the legacy S1 Z+.

The launch comes as Ola Electric attempts to rebuild its presence in India's electric two-wheeler market. The company said its EV market share improved to 8.4 percent in the first quarter of FY27 from 5.1 percent in the preceding quarter.
