Indian benchmark indices ended lower on Friday, with losses in financial stocks outweighing strong gains in auto and IT shares. The Sensex closed down 455.59 points, or 0.58 percent, at 78,499.17, while the Nifty fell 65.35 points, or 0.27 percent, to 24,570.65. Bajaj Finance tumbled nearly 6 percent, while Bajaj Finserv, Trent and ICICI Bank were among the other major laggards. In contrast, TCS, Grasim and Hindalco gained more than 3 percent each. The Nifty Auto and IT indices rose 1.84 percent and 1.42 percent, respectively, while private banks fell over 1 percent. Market breadth was negative, with 1,964 shares advancing against 2,119 declines.
