Iran-US on toll-free Hormuz
Jun 24 2026 5:52PM
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran has assured Washington that it is not seeking tolls, insurance charges or any other fees from ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, seeking to calm tensions over one of the most contentious issues in the ongoing US-Iran peace talks.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed recent media reports suggesting Tehran was planning to levy maritime charges on commercial vessels using the strategic waterway.

“Iran has informed the U.S. that, despite troublemaking Fake News reporting to the contrary, there are ‘NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND BEING SOUGHT OR RECEIVED BY IRAN ON SHIPS TRAVELING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ,’” Trump wrote.

He also issued a blunt warning, saying the negotiations would collapse if Iran’s assurances proved false.

“If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately!” Trump said.
