Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty fell significantly from day's high to trade in red on July 15 due to various reasons, including profit booking.
On July 15, Sensex ended 130.49 points or 0.17% higher at 77,185.43, and the Nifty closed 26.45 points or 0.11% higher at 24,078.50. About 2,203 shares advanced, 1,896 shares declined, and 158 shares were unchanged.
Buying in banking, capital goods, consumer durables and oil & gas stocks offset weakness in metal, IT and FMCG shares. The benchmarks had rallied strongly in early trade, with the Sensex surging over 590 points and the Nifty crossing the 24,200 mark, before profit-booking erased much of the advance.
