India's largest airline IndiGo has unveiled an ambitious FY30 growth blueprint that envisages carrying around 200 million passengers annually, expanding its international footprint and transforming India into a major global aviation transit hub.
The roadmap, presented at the airline's analyst day on June 8, outlined plans to operate more than 550 aircraft, conduct nearly 3,000 daily departures and raise international operations to account for 40 percent of total capacity by FY30. The airline also aims to increase capacity to around 300 billion available seat kilometres (ASKs), nearly doubling its scale from current levels.
The long-term targets come even as IndiGo adopts a cautious approach towards capacity deployment in the near term amid softer travel demand triggered by the West Asia conflict. The airline expects capacity growth of around 3-4 percent in the first quarter fiscal and said it will take a "measured approach" to adding capacity as market conditions remain uncertain.
A central pillar of IndiGo's strategy is international markets. The airline plans to increase international capacity share to 40 percent by FY30 from around 30 percent currently, driven by the induction of Airbus A321XLR aircraft and Airbus A350 widebody jets.
Nine A321XLR aircraft are expected to join the fleet this fiscal, enabling the carrier to expand into longer-haul markets and destinations such as Athens, Istanbul, Bali and Seoul.
Beyond overseas destinations, IndiGo is positioning India as a global transit hub connecting Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The airline believes India's geographic location offers a significant opportunity to capture connecting traffic that currently flows through hubs in the Gulf and Southeast Asia.
The carrier ended FY26 with a fleet of 441 aircraft and carried more than 123 million passengers during the year.
Premiumisation and operational efficiency
IndiGo is also accelerating its premiumisation strategy through a substantial expansion of its stretch business-class product. The premium offering will be deployed on more aircraft, including the incoming A321XLR fleet, which will feature dedicated business-class cabins, complimentary meals and enhanced onboard services.
